One of the US top poker players, Phil Ivey is suing a Mayfair casino for £7.8 million in which he says they are refusing to hand over as his winnings.

Mr Ivey says he won the money fairly in games of punto banco at crockfords last year in August

He says that the Casino gave him a receipt for his winnings but has been left saddened as he has still not recieved his money.

But Crockfords owner says that he will be defending the claim vigorously and must be sure that the winnings are not deserving.

Phil Ivey said in a statement: ”won and lost substantial sums at Crockfords over the years and had “always honoured my commitments.

“At the time, I was given a receipt for my winnings but Crockfords subsequently withheld payment,

“I therefore feel I have no alternative but to take legal action.”

But the casino owner Genting said in a statement: ”However, in this rare instance we are able to confirm that our position, which is supported by strong legal advice, has been made very clear to Mr Ivey’s solicitors from the start,

“We shall be filing our defence shortly and defending this claim vigorously.”
